Our Background

After graduating from the Granger Bay Hotel School and working in some of South Africa’s top hotels, I (Mark) headed off to the UK in 1999. That’s where I met Diana, my wife, partner-in-hospitality, and quite possibly the most memorable person you’ll ever meet (in the best possible way).

Over the years, I managed several country house hotels across England, learning the fine art of guest relations, British small talk, and how to fix a boiler at 2am without swearing. Then, during a holiday back home in South Africa, we spotted a charming guest house in Swellendam and thought, “Why not?” So we bought it, revamped it, and ran it for four years.

It was a six-room, five-star guest house, and for four wonderful years, we poured our hearts into it. Diana, with her uncanny ability to make even the most uptight traveller feel instantly at home, was the secret weapon. We grew the business, kept our five-star rating, and developed a reputation for the kind of personal service that people actually wrote about in reviews (the good kind).

We understand the commitment it takes to run a guest house well: the long hours, the attention to every detail, and the pressure to deliver consistently excellent service. We’re adaptable, calm under pressure, and experienced with a range of booking and property management systems.

Above all, we care deeply about the guest experience and will ensure your high standards are upheld in your absence.

What We Offer

As a mature (read: well-seasoned, not wilted) and highly competent couple, we step in with confidence, calm, and the kind of common sense that only comes from years of dealing with everything from double-bookings to guests who mistake the minibar for an all-you-can-eat buffet.

We slot into your routine quickly and quietly—like a pair of friendly ghosts, only with better people skills. Whether it’s managing staff, juggling bookings, charming guests, or politely resetting the Wi-Fi router when it forgets it has one job, we’ll keep the show running smoothly while you recharge.

Our home base is Cape Town, but our bags are always half-packed, and we’re happy to travel to your guesthouse, lodge, or B&B.

Once you’ve decided on your getaway dates, we’ll pop in for a relaxed meet-and-greet to make sure you’re completely at ease. Then, closer to the time, we’ll schedule a proper handover—no rushed instructions shouted from the driveway. We’ll spend time getting to know your setup, meet the team (who, let’s be honest, know exactly where the spare lightbulbs are), and ensure we’re fully prepped before you head off to forget what a check-in time is.

We’re devoted animal lovers—so your pets will be pampered, adored, and absolutely convinced we’re the fun grandparents who let them get away with everything.
